The Key Laboratory of Pu’er tea science of the ministry of education (KLPTME) was approved by the ministry of education in December 2011. It was established by integrating Yunnan tea deep processing engineering and technology research center, Yunnan tea plant and tea processing scientific observation and test station of the ministry of agriculture, research resources of Tea College of Yunnan Agricultural University, and research resources of food college.

KLPTME focuses on the needs of national and Yunnan socio-economic development for tea science, technology. Talents carry out innovative research at the forefront of international tea research and focus on the study and achievement transformation of major vital technologies of basic tea theory and industrial application to provide innovative theoretical and applied technical support for China’s tea industry development, especially the Pu’er tea industry. The construction goal of KLPTME is to have the advanced international level in the research and application development in the field of tea, especially in the in-depth research on the regulation of abnormal body metabolism and anti-tumor of tea, and establish innovative theories, technologies and methods.

KLPTME research interests include tea science, chemistry, immunology, and microbiology, mainly including (1) research, protection, and utilization of tea germplasm resources; (2) Tea garden biodiversity and ecological tea garden; (3) The material basis and molecular biological mechanism of the efficacy of active tea factors; (4) Application and transformation of fundamental research results of tea science.

One-third of the scientific research team of KLPTME has a foreign doctoral degree and has obtained the support of significant special funds at the provincial and ministerial levels. The laboratory encourages innovation, supports the development of applied technology, and is committed to combining innovation and entrepreneurship.
