Introduction

College of Science CSof Yunnan Agricultural University is a teaching and research-oriented college that focuses on undergraduate education and combines postgraduate education with equal emphasis on teaching and scientific research. CS has apparent advantages in fundamental disciplines, outstanding characteristics in applied fields, and strong scientific research strength. Currently, CS has three departments of Electronic Information Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Applied Chemistry, including six undergraduate majors of Electronic Information Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Biological Engineering, which are closely related to social needs, and cultivate professionals in intelligent control, applications of internet of things, computational finance, computational biology, analytical chemistry, chemical biology, and biological engineering for the society.

CS has highly qualified faculty and good teaching conditions. Currently, CS has 73 faculty and staff members, including 9 full professors and 23 associate professors. About 54 percent of our faculty and staff members hold the highest degree in their fields and the rest have master’s degrees. Among our faculty members, one was awarded the title of Yunnan Provincial Academic and Technical Leader, one was awarded the title of Young and Middle-aged Academic Leader Reserve Talent in Yunnan Province, two were awarded the title of Yunnan Province Ten Thousand Talents Program Young Top Talent, one person was awarded the title of Yunnan Province Teacher’s Morality Model, one person was awarded the title of Advanced Individual in Teaching Management in Yunnan Province, and one was awarded the title of Excellent Counselor in Colleges and Universities in Yunnan Province. At present, CS has two provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms (Key Laboratory of Pu’er Tea Science of the Ministry of Education, Yunnan Province Organic Tea Industry Intelligent Engineering Research Center), two prefecture-level scientific research platforms (Yunnan Provincial University Biogas Industrialization Technology Engineering Research Center), Yunnan Biomanufacturing Research Center), two university-level teaching platforms (Basic Experimental Teaching Center of Yunnan Agricultural University, Yunnan Biomanufacturing Research Institute), four college-level scientific research platforms (Computational Finance Research Center, Artificial Intelligence Engineering Research Center, Industrial Crystallization Research Center) Center, Analysis and Testing Center). In addition, CS has 4,000 square meters of teaching and research space, with more than 1,000 teaching and research instruments sets. CS has always promoted scientific research with teaching and teaching, actively carried out scientific research, and encouraged and applied scientific and technological achievements. In recent years, CS faculty members have presided over ten national-level funded projects and more than 70 scientific research projects funded by other institutions, with an average annual research funding of more than 6 million, edited and participated in the editing of more than 20 textbooks and monographs, published more than 200 academic papers, and applied for more than 60 patents.

Currently, CS has 1160 undergraduate students and more than 30 graduate students. The college has carried out various extracurricular quality education activities for a long time to cultivate inter-disciplinary talent with a solid professional foundation, strong learning ability, strong practical ability, particular innovation ability, and strong social adaptability. More than 100 students have won awards in national discipline competitions such as the National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, and the National “Internet +” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in the past three years. In addition, more than 30 people participated in social practice activities such as “three districts” scientific and technological services and “three rural areas.” Employers inside and outside the province welcome the students trained by CS because of their solid professional foundation, excellent professional skills, and rigorous and straightforward style
