General information: Applied chemistry aims to cultivate inter-disciplinary professionals with basic theoretical knowledge of chemistry, solid experimental skills, and data analysis and evaluation skills, experimental design and research and development ability, good scientific literacy. It can engage in scientific research, teaching, and management in scientific research institutions, colleges and universities, enterprises, and institutions. Applied chemistry is divided into analytical chemistry and chemical biology. Analytical chemistry focuses on learning relevant analytical theories and testing technologies in hot social fields such as environment, food, and drugs; Chemical biology focuses on learning chemistry, biology, chemical biology-related ideas, methods, and research techniques. The study duration in applied chemistry is 3-6 years, and a bachelor of science degree is awarded.

Main course: Applied chemistry is recruited according to major categories. The first and second grades complete quality education public courses, as well as major introductory courses such as inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, structural chemistry, general biology, biochemistry, instrumental analysis, unique English for chemistry, chemical literature retrieval, and scientific writing, etc. The third grade enters the sub-direction study and completes the corresponding practical training.

The main courses in analytical chemistry include advanced chemical analysis, modern analytical testing technology, spectral analysis, environmental pollutant analysis, food chemical analysis, industrial, analytical chemistry, natural product chemistry, agricultural and sideline product quality and nutrition, etc.

The main courses in the direction of chemical biology include natural product chemistry and separation technology, biostatistics, molecular biology, cell biology, etc.

Majors’ characteristics: The training process of applied chemistry mainly includes three significant steps: classroom teaching and practice, scientific research practice, and comprehensive quality training. Relying on scientific research platforms such as the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education and the Engineering Research Center of the Department of Education, Applied Chemistry cultivates students’ learning ability, hands-on ability, innovation ability, and social adaptability.

Employment orientation: Graduates of applied chemistry are mainly engaged in teaching, scientific research, technology development, and management in chemistry, medicine and health, food, environment, biology, life, materials, chemical industry, and environmental protection.
